When most people speak of the Saoshyant, they imagine a singular messianic figure.
But in Zoroastrian tradition, the coming of the world-restorer isn’t a one-time event.
It happens in three waves. Three saviors. Three cosmic pulses moving through time.
This trilogy of Saoshyants reflects not just a sequence in time, but a process of purification, guiding the soul of humanity through awakening, cleansing, and ultimate renewal.
1. The Prophecy of the Three Saoshyants
According to the Denkard, Bundahishn, and Zand-i Vohuman Yasht, there are three Saoshyants foretold, each arising in successive millennia after Zarathustra. They are:
1. Hushedar
- The first Saoshyant
- Appears 1,000 years after Zarathustra
- Initiates the beginning of the end of falsehood
- Brings minor awakenings and renews sacred teachings
- Begins softening the world for greater change
2. Hushedarmah
- The second Saoshyant
- Appears another 1,000 years later
- Deepens the cleansing of the world
- Weakens Angra Mainyu’s grip on humanity
- Establishes stronger ethical consciousness and global awareness
3. Astvat-ereta (The Saoshyant)
- The final and greatest Saoshyant
- Bringer of Frashokereti, the full renovation of the world
- Appears in the final 3,000-year cycle
- Defeats falsehood, raises the dead, and restores cosmic harmony
- His name means “embodied righteousness”—he is not an idea, but an active force of Asha
These aren’t just people—they’re ages. Each one represents a step in the soul’s return to order.
2. Why Three? The Magian Code of Completion
Zoroastrian cosmology operates in triads:
- Good Thoughts, Good Words, Good Deeds
- Manah (mind), Vohu Khshathra (domain), Asha (truth)
- Three times 1,000-year ages of the Saoshyants
Each Saoshyant corresponds to a phase of spiritual engineering:

- Global crises accelerating purification (climate, war, spiritual disillusionment)
- The reawakening of Zoroastrian memory itself—the return of the fire
- People no longer waiting for saviors, but rising as truth-bearers
We are not just reading about the Saoshyant.
We are living in his shadow—or his dawn.
4. What Each Saoshyant Teaches Us
These are not just characters in a myth. They are archetypes within us.
- Hushedar asks: Will you wake up?
- Hushedarmah asks: Will you speak truth?
- Astvat-ereta asks: Will you become it?
The last one is the most demanding. Because it says:
“Stop looking. Start becoming.”

“Astvat-ereta” is not someone we must wait for.
